Koukounaries is the most famed beach on Skiathos. It is regularly voted among the best beaches in the world. A crescent beach stretching its golden sands for a kilometre down the crystal blue water, with a lagoon sitting just behind the lines of pine trees. For this reason the beach can get very busy in peak season, but this shouldnt discourage you from staying here.
Koukounaries Beach has everything you could want. Water sports, taverna’s, beach bars and sun beds. Water sports include Water-skiing, power boating, Jet-Skiing and diving.
The area of Koukounaries doesn’t have a village as such. The lagoon is a nature reserve so excessice building to accommodate tourist has been stopped. It does have a few hotels, tavernas. Not far from Koukounaries you will find Banana Beach.
Koukounaries is the last stop on the south bus route. You can get to Skiathos town and all the stops in between. There is also a high speed water taxi to Skiathos town, which is well worth the extra few Euros in comparison to the bus.
Over the last few years, Koukounaries Beach has started to became a little more commercialised, but that doesn’t take away from what a truly amazing location it is. Koukounaries would be perfect for any looking for a beach holiday. With Skiathos being such a small island it is easy to see all the island from any resort you choose to stay at. The stand out hotel in Koukounaries is the Skiathos Palace Hotel.
