Achladies is a quiet resort on the south east coast of Skiathos. It is perfectly located between Koukounaries to the east and Skiathos Town to the west. It would be best suited to families, couples and people are looking to be away from the hustle and bustle of Skiathos Town but close enough to be able to get to the main town quickly and easily
What you will find In Achladies
Despite being a small resort you will find all the essentials within walking distance. There are two supermarkets for all your shopping needs, one also has a bakery inside that sells a wide selection of freshly made pasties. Also there is an amazing little bakery that sells the most wonderful selection of cakes. On the beach front there is another small shop selling beach essentials, as well as two taverna’s. In the main village there is also a great little restaurant.
On the beach at Achladies is a water sports centre. Here you will be able to get your thrills water skiing, wake boarding and paragliding. If this seems a little extreme you could opt to just just drift around on a pedalo. If you prefer under water activities, then your in luck. The clear waters make Achladies perfect for diving. If you just wish to sunbath then you can, there are plenty of beds to rent for around 5 Euros each for as long as you want them.
Distance to Skiathos Town
The main town on the island is a mere 4k from Achladies and is really easy to get to. In fact you have more than one option. The buses on the island are very regular. At the height of the tourist season they are as frequent as every 20 minutes. However, if you want to avoid the bus, they can get very busy, a short walk down to the beach you can get the water taxi straight into the port at Skiathos Town. Whilst it is a little more expensive than the bus, it is well worth it. Especially after the sun sets and the stars are out in force.
Where to eat in Achladies
If you want to stay around the resort to eat you have a few options and all of them are good.
Located at the far end of Achladies beach, Paradise Taverna offer a wide selection of traditional Greek cuisine as well as a few international dishes. I highly recommend the Seafood platter which is a selection of the freshest catch of the day. One night a week they have a traditional Greek night where the music in playing, the wine is flowing and the dancing lasts until you drop.
As you walk down the path to Achladies beach, you will see this restaurant before you get to the beach. The other side opens up on to the beach and serve food and drinks all day. This a a wonderful place to get away form the heat of the beach and re-hydrate with a cold Mythos or a glass of Greek Red. The food is really good, serving everything from a light lunchtime snack to a meal fit for a king. It also offers Free WiFi for sharing your pictures of the beach with our Facebook page.
The Porta Rossa is in the village of Achladies and opens in the evenings for Dinner. The Restaurant has a less of a Taverna feel to it and more of a high class feel to it. The food certainly doesn’t let it down. It has a very good reputation and will attract diners from resorts all over the island. You can find their website here.
Where to Stay in Achladies
Our recommendation for Achladies is the Filokalia. Despite its small size it certainly offers a great service and makes a fantastic base on the island. Set away from the beach can make it a little trickier for those with walking difficulties, but it is great for families and couples. Shellina an ex-pat, who manages the apartments is an amazing hostess and can not do more for her guests. I highly recommend the Greek night and BBQ. The Filokalia is an Olympic Holidays exclusive so you can find it by following this link
The Esperides is located right on the beach front and is a great choice for anyone looking to visit Achladies. The hotel itself is fantastic and it is also ideally located for both the beach and the Water taxi. It is also a very short walk from the village. This can be booked through either Olympic Holiday ( Link Here ) or Thomson Holidays (link).
